Meet Our Founder: Dr. John Librett

In 1995, John Librett found himself at a pivotal point. As a student at the University of Utah School of Medicine, he was studying epidemiology, biostatistics, and health policy. He was passionate about his academic work and excited about the future.

Then everything changed. John was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma, a form of thyroid cancer.

John, being an athlete, understood the value of teamwork. He set out to leverage his connections with doctors and assembled a dedicated team to support him. With their collective help, John embarked on a quest to identify innovative approaches to cancer treatment that could improve his overall health and well-being.

In the process, he unearthed a profound truth: Cancer care encompasses far more than a diagnosis and initial treatment. The impact of cancer treatment extends well beyond what are typically thought of as “side effects.” They persist for years, even decades.

Cancer treatment can amplify the prevalence of other illnesses, from cardiac and pulmonary diseases to neurological and endocrine disorders. New mental health issues also emerge among cancer survivors, accompanied by increased social and financial challenges.

John’s journey of survivorship and discovery left him with a goal to create a healthcare company capable of impacting the lives of survivors worldwide. Survivor Healthcare exists today to bring that vision to life.
